Guidelines for School Choice
- Applications for School Choice will be accepted by the Central Enrollment Office via electronic submission, mail or in-person.
- If the number of applicants exceeds the number of slots available, students will be selected on a random basis by the lottery process pursuant to M.G.L. c.76 § 12B(j).
- The West Springfield Public School District will operate under the guidance of M.G.L. c.76 § 12B(j) and give priority to qualifying siblings of students already enrolled in WSPS under the School Choice Program.
- Any student who is accepted for admission under the provisions of the West Springfield School District’s School Choice policy is entitled to remain in the District until graduation from high school except if there is a lack of funding of the program.
- Notification of application status, accepted or placed on a wait list, will be sent to all applicants via email no later than July 1st prior to the applicable school year. Those offered a seat must confirm their interest in enrollment according to the direction given in the confirmation notification.
- Upon notification of acceptance into the School Choice Program the WSPS Registration Form must be submitted along with all required registration documentation. Enrollment into West Springfield Public Schools will not be finalized until the registration process is complete.
- Students accepted are subject to all policies and regulations of the West Springfield Public Schools.
- Transportation to and from school is the responsibility of the parents/guardians.
- If at any point, a choice student withdraws from the West Springfield School District for any reason, they automatically forfeit their school choice slot. Re-entrance into West Springfield Public Schools would then require either residency or reapplication via the standard School Choice process without special consideration.
